It’s easy to get caught up in all the latest kitchen design trends. We spend hours online looking for inspiration for everything from flooring to faucets. Don’t get us wrong, if you want your kitchen to look fresh and modern, these design trends are important. But sometimes in our quest for a new space, we forget one important thing: how to make your kitchen your own. So here are some ideas from a recent kitchen renovation you may not be thinking about.
One of our favorite kitchen projects involved gutting a dreary outdated kitchen. We love it when a project involves a complete overhaul. While the home was purchased as a “dream house – phase 2” (for empty nesters), it needed a lot of work. The previous kitchen was small and dark, with walls separating it from other rooms. This kitchen remodeling project was a lot of work.
Kitchen Renovation Ideas: How to Make it Your Own
The project began with tearing down walls to create an open floor plan, connecting the kitchen to the family room. And yes, we had many of the critical design elements in mind for this space. A soft warm and welcoming Greige paint color for walls. Light colored cabinets to brighten the space, with dark hardware accents for pop. And last but not least, stainless steel appliances, and plenty of lighting. But now, for some personalization ideas.
First up, the centerpiece of the room. A stunning, custom-built, live edge walnut island top, with centered lights. Not only does it create a beautiful space for entertaining, but it becomes a focal point for the room. A unique Greige-blended stain finish on the white oak floor sets a neutral tone in the space. A carefully selected tile backsplash is chosen for above the range. The zig-zag pattern and blend of colors creates a point of interest. Last but not least, a new sitting area sits away from the hustle and bustle, just perfect for a morning cup of coffee.
These special details help create a kitchen that isn’t just beautiful, spacious, and updated, but also feels like home. And that’s what’s most important. It’s the little things that often make the biggest difference. When it comes to ideas for your kitchen renovation, find things that spark feeling. As you search through photos and videos, look for things that make you smile, feel joy, and might provide that little spark each time you walk into your space.
